As you all know, I work in the Registrar's office. We have all sorts of encounters here and many of them are humorous. The Records Department, for instance, has an on-going list of BU students/faculty/staff with funny names like Willy McWeeny, B.J. Mann and J. Christ.
Well there's a bunch of letters that circulate around and I've posted one of the strangest, spelling errors and all. You can tell that the person was under the influence of something because it just deteriorates in sanity. When reading it, take into account that it was hand written on white, unlined paper. I've changed most of the personal information just to be nice and there are non-BU friendly links for the rest of you.

Dear Dean of College of Liberal Arts,
My B.A. Degree in English, my actual diploma was stolen in 1990. I had it at Box 380 Water Street in my grandmother Olive Herman Childs’ former estate in Kingston, MA. It has been stolen. I’ve been too ashamed to tell anyone or get it replaced. It was framed + matted at the Harvard Coop in Cambridge, Massachusetts in June, 1988 (Red for school colors).
I need a new dipomma and alumni card. I loved school and looking up job information on Monday, May 5, 1997 and reading the Daily Free Press Newspaper. My advisor’s name was Professor William Vance of the B.U. English Department.
Please tell me how much another duplicate transcript or diploma replacement costs? I will send money for a replacement Pen & Quill diploma asap. It was signed by my calculus Professor Mr. Dennis Berkey. Dean of the Math Department then. I loved the era I went to school with the Metcaffe awards. My favorite professor was Dr. Gagliardo. Ph.D. in Political Science.
I wanted to pass Creative Writing, and if you can look it up at 881 Commonwealth Avenue in the Transcript Dept. I’d appreciate it.
Please help me replace it.
My social security number is ***-**-**** and I was born June 6, 1965. I just turned 32 years old and I wanted a B.S. in your Case Science Center more than anything. I am spending my life in Maine and am getting righted. I love Books and computer diskettes + computer programers. I also took 3 non degree classes after graduation. I got a B at Quincy College, an A at Cape Cod Community, and a nice well rounded audit class at Cape Cod Community Introduction to Business.
I want to get back to keeping a log and journal. I am a survivor hiker with the school for Field Studies zoology credits too. I love my liberal arts diplomma and participated on three BUSA (B.U. ski – alpine ski association trips). I pray no violence at Marsh Chapel, and love S.F.A + S.E.D. forever. I have school pride. I am a non-smoker. + I can not take the GRE again right no, but I have pride. I want to go on and take Bookkeeping and Accounting asap. I wan to get into school in September or get hired by a small business company.
I am thankful and feel bad that the demons stole my text books I had saved in boxes and the good ole’ Barnet and Stubbs by Barnet.
I love Mogan and want to contribute as a respected alumna woman of the 1960’s. MA public education was good too! I hope to memorize more again and not bomb my exams. I should be able to work for a good Maine company and buy another L.L. Bean Anorak rain coat. Than you for all your help!
